Police in the Ashanti Region has arrested five suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked and robbed a gold dealer at Akyem-Adukrom near Kyebi in the Abuakwa South Municipality in the Eastern Region.
The arrest followed after Police at Kyebi had signaled the Regional Intelligence Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command who mount a barrier on the Accra to Kumasi Highway to effect the arrest.
The suspects, Adams Awal, Ibrahim Amidu, also known as Akwasi Anokye, Inusah Moro, Nasiru Salifu, and Kwadwo Amponsah are currently in police custody
A statement issued by the police on says items retrieved from the suspects include an AK 47 Rifle, pistol, gold nuggets, a Toyota Land Cruiser, and a sum of GHC 9,000.
”Items retrieved from them include one AK 47 Assault Rifle with Number 12142372 plus two magazines loaded with twenty- four (24) rounds of ammunition, one python Revolver pistol, Eight (8) BB live Cartridges, Nine (9) gold nuggets, and cash the sum of Nine thousand and seventy-seven Ghana Cedis. (Ghc 9,077.00)” the Police report added.
The suspects have since been detained and whiles a Toyota Land Cruiser with trade plate number DV 4142 F being used by the suspects have been impounded for investigations.
In another development, the Savannah Regional Police Command is also on a manhunt for three other suspected robbers to have gunned down a commuter on the Bole-Bamboi Highway.
