Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew, has chastised that only experienced players in the senior national team are guaranteed an automatic spot to make the final squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
According to the former Olympic Marseille and West Ham United midfielder, excluding the “senior players”, no player is guaranteed a position in the Black Stars going into the tournament.
Speaking to Qatari-based news outlet Al Aljazeera, Andre Ayew stated that “apart from senior players who may have an advantage, I believe no one is guaranteed a place in the squad just yet.”
The Al Sadd forward also admitted that the inclusion of new players into the team has made positions in the squad very competitive.
“The newcomers are talented, but we already have a strong team that qualified for the World Cup, so every position is competitive,” Andre Dede Ayew stressed.
He thus charged every player who had been given an opportunity into the team to “prove their quality on the field” adding, “everyone has a chance, giving the coach more options and solutions, and formations, and I believe it is beneficial to have new players with the right mentality.”
His comments come a day before Ghana’s friendly match against Nicaragua on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, in Spain following a 3-0 loss to Brazil last Friday.
They will play Switzerland later in the last of three friendly matches outlined for the stars before the start of the November-December tournament in Qatar.
