After the debate in Parliament to decide the fate of the Finance Minister, the Speaker of the House, Alban Bagbin has announced the stay of Ken Ofori Atta.

This comes after the Members of Parliament voted to determine whether not the Minister should continue to act as a government official or not.

The New Patriotic Party, the Majority Caucus of the House, staged a walkout during the voting period leaving the National Democratic Congress to take the decision.

After the collation, however, it turned out that the Minority did not meet the threshold of the two-thirds membership of the House to guarantee Mr Ofori Atta’s removal from office, with 136 NDC MPs casting their secret ballots.

The censure motion to remove the minister from office thus failed to yield results.

“The vote is accordingly lost,” the Speaker, Alban Bagbin declared.
