Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Adentan Constituency, Kojo Adu Asare has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MP) to petition the President to call on the Attorney General to discontinue the criminal proceedings against Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson as an act of good faith.
This, he said, on Kokoase Segment of Angel Morning Show, will be a way fo showing love and concern for an embattled colleague from another party.
“This NPP and their MPs…they don’t love this country [because] if they do they would have impressed upon the Attorney General who is equally an MP and even petition the President noting that this particular decision [case] that the Attorney General is prosecuting is really having a toll on our work in Parliament so he should do something about it because the minority is resolute that for as long as the case is in court, they will solidarize with Gyakye Quayson continually…,” he said.
He said this would help to bring about a form of a truce and also show that the NPP MPs care about a fellow Law Maker who is in trouble.
The former Law maker further entreated the NPP MPs to do Gyakye Quayson this favour because they can be next to face the music after he is jailed.
“We are not seeing this solidarity from the NPP side. Doesn’t mean they want Gyakye Quayson who has legitimately been voted into Parliament twice jailed…?,” he queried.
Adu Asare was also of the opinion that Gyakye Quayson’s case is never similar to that of the late Adamu Sakande since the latter possessed and travelled on three different passports.
“Sakande was in possesion of three passports and was travelling on all while sitting in Parliament…tell me how many laws this does not break,?” he said.
Gyakye Quayson was dragged to court for allegedly holding dual citizenship. The state has filed criminal charges against him.
Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, criticized the High Court’s decision to hear Quayson’s trial every day.
