The Minority Caucus in Parliament has described as a “crime scene” the premises of the Bank of Ghana.

According to the caucus, the current managers at the Central Bank are engaged in financial crime making them turn the Bank into a crime scene.

The Minority said this when addressing participants at a public forum on Thursday at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), ahead of its #OccupyBoG protest scheduled for September 5, 2023.

“It is important to point out that, in 2016, on the watch of President John Mahama and notwithstanding that year’s general elections, the NDC government financed the entire budget without any support from the Bank of Ghana. The Bank of Ghana is now a crime scene and the managers of the economy led by Mr. Strategist aided and abetted this economic crime,” a portion of the minority’s address reads.

They also called off the Central Bank’s excessive lending to the government in the past year and described it as unacceptable.

The #OccupyBoG protest dubbed ‘Addison Must Go’ and organized by the Minority is aimed to protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies over their alleged mismanagement of the Bank funds.

Having proposed to converge in front of Parliament then march through some principal streets in the capital and end at the Bank of Ghana premises, the police has asked the minority to change their routes for the service.

However, the Caucus has resisted the police advice and indicated they will not heed the call to choose alternative routes for the planned demonstration.

The action of the minority has since compelled the security agency to secure a court injunction against the protest.
