The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has assured the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs of his commitment to revitalizing the Ayalolo transport system, which he introduced in 2016 and has since been neglected by the incumbent government.
Addressing the Regional House of Chiefs, during his Greater Accra Regional Tour on Monday, March 11, 2024, Mahama emphasized the pressing need to enhance transportation systems in Accra, especially given its expanding size and cosmopolitan nature. He lamented the abandonment of the Ayalolo transport system by the present administration, citing it as a missed opportunity to address the city’s transit challenges.
“As president, I introduced the Ayalolo bus service to tackle some of these issues, but unfortunately, our successors have abandoned it,” Mahama remarked.
Undeterred by the system’s neglect, Mahama pledged to prioritize its revival, stating, “When we come into office, we are committed to revamping the Ayalolo bus service to cater to all parts of Accra, enabling people to travel conveniently to their destinations.”
Mahama underscored the significance of a robust transport system, emphasizing its role in supporting his proposed 24-hour economy policy, which aims to stimulate economic activity round the clock.
