The Ankobeahene of Akyem Asuoso in the Eastern Region, Nana Barnieh Adu Ampomah, has advised politicians against instigating the youth for political violence in the forthcoming December 7, 2024, general election.
According to the traditional ruler, the youth are the future generations of the country hence they must not be used for hooliganism or activities that will make them irresponsible in the near future.
Nana Barnieh Adu Ampomah however entreated political leaders to live exemplary lives to enable the youth to emulate them and become responsible citizens.
Speaking exclusively with Angelonline she cautioned that vesting too much power to the youth to engage in violence would put a dent in the country’s long-standing image of peaceful co-existence.
“Let’s not give the youth unnecessary powers to exhibit while controlling and manipulating them to engage in violent activities.
The leaders should also set a good example to exhibit to the youths because a good leader must be disciplined to hate shady activities so that peace can reign in the country,” She added.
The chief who doubles as a certified health practitioner while emphasising maintaining peace and order on December 7 asked Ghanaians to see themselves as one people rather than enemies irrespective of their political affiliation.
She added that in a democratic dispensation state, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion by way of voting.
“Belonging to either the NPP or NDC is not a crime because the bible even states that being in opposition is good as it keeps one on its toes and prevents going astray.
However we should all bear in mind and understand that when somebody opposes you, it means nothing negative rather it is criticism and opinion sharing in a democratic practice to help in nation-building,” She added.
Nana Barnieh Adu Ampomah further advised the youths not to be carried away by their youthfulness and energy to allow some irresponsible politicians to influence them to indulge in violent activities as it consequences would be more destructive than good to their future.
“The youth are sometimes carried away by their emotions and age. So they should also not trade their conscience for money so that politicians would use them to achieve their political ambitions because, in the end, it is their future being jeopardized,” the chief advised.
With peace and the stability Ghana continues enjoying, she observed the need to ensure it is maintained.
