The minority in Parliament through its deputy leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembele, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has called on Interior Minister, Henry Quartey to with immediate effect stop the secret enlistment into the security services.
According to him, the Interior Minister has been planning to effect this secret enlistment in the month of July 2024.
The former Energy Minister told the press in Parliament that the minority has sighted a publication in the Chronicle Newspaper stating the plan of the Interior Ministry to recruit about 11,000 people into the various security services such as the police, Immigration, Customs service, fire service and prison service.
This move, he said, is being done without the necessary publicity. He added that the Chronicle’s publication explained that the ministry is doing so as a way of clearing the backlogs.
Mr Buah however advised the Interior Minister to make use of the legal and standard means of recruiting Ghanaian youth into security services so as to give equal opportunity to all eligible Ghanaians who will want to join any of the security services.
The ranking member on Defence and Interior committee who double as MP for Builsa north, Mr James Agalga added that, the minority is not against the enlistment but it must be done in the open where every Ghanaian would have the opportunity to apply for the enlistment.
