Investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has revealed that President Nana Akufo-Addo was not in favor of the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh running to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

During an interview on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), Manasseh explained that Bawumia’s delay in announcing his vice-presidential candidate stemmed from the fact that President Akufo-Addo did not support his decision.

“Bawumia held off until the last minute to announce his running mate because he knew President Akufo-Addo wasn’t in support of his choice. Before the announcement, Bawumia had already consulted Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and former President John Agyekum Kufuor, confirming that Napo was his final choice,” Manasseh revealed.

He went on to say that Otumfuo had informed President Akufo-Addo of Bawumia’s decision during one of their meetings.

Manasseh further noted that President Akufo-Addo was disappointed that Dr Bawumia hadn’t informed him directly, as he first learned of the decision from Otumfuo.

In addition, Manasseh commented on Bawumia’s independent stance, suggesting that if Bawumia were to become president, it would be difficult for Akufo-Addo to control him. He drew a comparison to the late President John Atta Mills, who was not swayed by external influences once in office.

“The fact that Bawumia chose Napo as his running mate, despite knowing that President Akufo-Addo did not favor him, is a clear indication that he cannot be easily controlled, a quality that will likely persist if he becomes president,” Manasseh concluded.
