Former Member of Parliament for La-Dadekotopon, Nii Ammasah Namoale has criticized the recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned the Speaker of Parliament’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant saying it was politically motivated.
Namoale, who appeared on Angel Morning Show hosted by Kwadwo Oppong Kyeremeh on November 13, 2024, argued that the judgment was politically influenced and was aimed at benefiting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and designed to serve a specific agenda.
“This Judgment of the Supreme Court was a political decision to achieve a certain purpose, and that is to help the NPP as a political party to achieve their aim and purpose,” Namoale said.
He added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if they overturn their own ruling in the future.”
He referenced Article 129 (3) of the Constitution, which permits the Supreme Court to depart from its previous decisions when it appears right to do so.
The former MP’s comments add to a growing debate over judicial independence and political interference in high-stakes legal decisions, highlighting the complex relationship between Ghana’s judiciary and its political landscape.
