The Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Francis Xavier-Sosu, has stated that the site for the construction of the National Cathedral, can be used for a more beneficial national project.
Mr. Xavier-Sosu explained that, although he is a Christian and believes in God, he also believes that using the National Cathedral site for a national project, such as a children’s hospital, would be much better than the intended plan.
The immediate-past administration spent over GH¢339 million on this project as of July 2024.
He pointed out that when Abena Osei Asare, the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, confirmed in Parliament that she was responding to an urgent query raised by the then Deputy Majority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, seeking clarification on the funds allocated and spent on the contentious project, it was clear that building the cathedral is not a priority.
Mr Xavier-Sosu made the remarks while interacting with sections of the media on the sidelines of meeting by the Madina National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives, to discuss the factors that led to their victory and how to implement more initiatives to maintain the seat for a long time.
He stated, “Ghanaians should exercise patience as the NDC government has come to work for the betterment of all citizens.”
The private legal practitioner further added that, although there are many challenges, they will be resolved in no time.
