President John Mahama on Thursday, March 6, 2025, visited victims of the recent Volta Region tidal wave and directed the Minister of Finance to make the necessary budgetary allocations for the commencement of the Blekusu Phase 2 project.

His directives come in the wake of the recent tidal waves that have displaced approximately 600 people, leaving communities such as Agavedzi and its surrounding areas affected.

The President’s move aims to mitigate the perennial flooding and destruction caused by tidal waves along the coast of the Ketu South and Keta constituencies in the Volta Region.

“..My heart was with the people of Amutinu, Salakope, and Agavedzi who are battling the devastating effects of tidal waves. I spent the afternoon with them, witnessing firsthand the challenges they face,” he stated.

Mr. Mahama further instructed the Minister of Finance to allocate funds allocations for the commencement of the Blekusu Phase 2 project.

“Seeing the devastation reinforced my commitment to finding a long-term solution. I will instruct the finance minister to allocate funds in the 2025 budget for Phase Two of the Berekusu Sea Defence Project. We must protect these communities.

I was shocked by the shoddy work done on a resettlement housing project ongoing in one of the communities. We must do better for our people,” President Mahama added.

The President and his entourage also distributed food, relief items, and provided some cash support to the victims.
