In a significant move to assist some Ghanaians who were affected by a natural disaster, the government has allocated funds for the impacted communities.
Notable recent disasters include the Akosombo Dam spillage and the tidal wave disaster at Agavedzi and surrounding communities in the Ketu South constituency of the Volta Region.
Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, stated that GH¢200 million has been set aside to assist victims of the recent tidal wave disaster in Ketu South.
“We have also allocated an amount of GH¢200 million to support the victims of the tidal wave disaster that recently displaced residents of Agavedzi and surrounding communities in the Ketu South constituency,” he announced.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson disclosed this during the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement in Parliament.
The Agavedzi, Salakope, and Amutinu communities were affected by tidal waves, which destroyed homes, farmlands, and displaced hundreds of families.
Expressing further the government’s commitment to the people, the minister also indicated that GH¢242.5 million has been allocated to support victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
