Ghanaian boxer, Ayitey Powers has sparked controversy with his comments on the government’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
On the Experience in Life show on Angel TV, he expressed his preference for free hospitals over free education.
“They should have done free hospitals instead of free SHS; that’s best to save lives,” Ayitey stated.
He questioned the interest in free SHS, citing examples of successful individuals, including himself and actor Liwin, who achieved success without formal education.
He further shared a personal experience at Korle Bu Hospital, where a patient struggled to afford blood.
“The last time I went to Korle Bu hospital, a man needed money to buy blood but he wasn’t having. Imagine if these things are free a lot of lives would have been saved,” he added.
He emphasized that one can succeed without formal education.
