The Member of Parliament for Akuapem South Constituency, Lawrencia Adwoa Dziwornu, has challenged the Black Queens to give their all to win the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
She indicated that although the team faces a difficult task with host nation Morocco in the semifinals, she backs them to be superior.
Black Queens play the North African side today, Tuesday, July 22, at 7 PM GMT, with South Africa and Nigeria also facing off in the other semifinal clash.
They are seeking a historic continental championship triumph for the first time, despite having reached three finals in the coveted Women’s AFCON.
The team’s performance so far in the competition has inspired national unity, with calls and support from various sectors and individuals urging the team to go all out and beat Morocco.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the Black Stars led by Captain Jordan Ayew have all wished the team well and called for national support.
Adding her voice to the call, the MP, who also serves on the Parliamentary Select Committee for Sports, Lawrencia Dziwornu, anticipates victory for the Queens and urges them to defy all odds and conquer the continent.
“We are all expecting that trophy to be lifted by them at this tournament and not like how we have experienced the last time when they reached the semifinals but were unable to lift it so we are solidly behind them,” she said in an interview over the weekened.
The MP reaffirmed her trust in the team and stated, “They should go and bring the trophy home.”
Madam Dziwornu was speaking at Aburi Adonten Park during her maiden football Talent-Hunting Tournament – an initiative that aligns President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for grassroots sports development.
