A 50-year-old man has been arrested at Nkwanta in the Oti Region for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The suspect, identified as Francis Donkor, was apprehended during an intelligence-led joint Police and Military operation conducted on Thursday, August 1, 2025, at about 6:15 p.m. The operation targeted individuals believed to be connected to recent violent rioting activities in Nkwanta and surrounding areas.
According to a police statement, the operation was carried out at a location opposite King’s Filling Station Down, following credible intelligence. The area was immediately cordoned off to ensure public safety and prevent any potential escape.
A search of the premises led to the retrieval of two single-barrel guns and four AAA ammunition rounds from the suspect’s room.
Donkor, the police said, was arrested at the scene and taken to the Police Station, where he is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
The recovered weapons and ammunition have been retained as evidence to support further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to public safety and warned the public against the unlawful possession and use of firearms.
