Government has obtained GH₵110 million to fund the operationlisation of the flagship Adwumawura Programme this year, Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo has disclosed.
Addressing his ministry’s turn of the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 4, he noted that the allocation authorised by President John Mahama and implemented by the Ministry of Finance demonstrates a firm commitment to empowering Ghanaian youth through entrepreneurship and job creation.
“In further demonstration of the government’s unwavering support for youth empowerment, an amount of GH₵110 million has been allocated this year for the nationwide rollout of the Adwumawura Programme.
“This financial backing sends a strong message that we are not merely announcing intentions, we are investing in the future of young people and resetting the country,” he stated.
Mr. Opare Addo highlighted that the initiative is not merely about creating jobs, but about fostering sustainable enterprises that advance national development and harness the potential of Ghana’s youth.
The Adwumawura Programme is designed to create, mentor, and support a minimum of 10,000 businesses annually, with a particular focus on empowering young individuals aged 18 to 35.
Beneficiaries of the programme will receive comprehensive assistance, including skills training, mentorship, access to start-up capital, and essential equipment, thereby ensuring the sustainability and success of their ventures.
President John Dramani Mahama launched the programme at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, in April.
In his address, he underscored the programme’s importance in tackling youth unemployment, which he identified as one of Ghana’s most pressing challenges.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating decent and sustainable job opportunities for young people, in alignment with the broader agenda of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stimulate economic growth and innovation.
