The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), and other transport operators have announced the withdrawal of their earlier decision to embark on a demonstration over the poor state of the Amasaman–Nsawam road.
According to the transport operators, their decision to back off stemmed from the fact that the contractor had now returned to site and resumed construction works on the stretch.
“The Transport Operators Association wishes to notify the general public and all stakeholders that we have withdrawn our earlier decision to embark on a demonstration over the poor state of the Amasaman–Nsawam road,” the unions stated in a joint release dated August 21, 2025.
They used the opportunity and expressed gratitude to the government and the relevant authorities for what it described as a timely intervention.
“We commend the Government of Ghana and the relevant authorities for their timely intervention, which demonstrates a commitment to resolving the pressing challenges that affect both transport operators and commuters.”
They further assured Ghanaians and stakeholders that they will continue to play their part in promoting road safety and safeguarding lives and property on the country’s highways.
It added that they remain committed to collaborating with government and all duty bearers towards sustainable road infrastructure development across the country.
