The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced that there will be heightened security during the collation of the Akwatia by-election to maintain peace and order.
He assured that the Ghana Police Service is fully prepared for the collation and declaration.
“It will be well. You have seen it already, and that is how it will be. And when it gets to counting, you will see that more reinforcement will come in. The robust ones will also come,” he told pressmen.
He added, “Everything is going on smoothly as planned, and that is what we expect to do to make sure that at the end of the day, we have a very smooth and peaceful election.”
Mr. Yohuno further assured the public that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process.
The IGP gave the assurance on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, during a media briefing after monitoring security operations in the constituency as voting continues.
The Electoral Commission is expected to begin vote counting after 5:00 PM, following the close of polls, before proceeding with the declaration of results.
