The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), through its Radiological and Medical Sciences Research Institute (RAMSRI), has organised a free breast cancer screening exercise at various markets in Accra.
This initiative, part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities, aims to promote early detection and treatment of breast cancer
The event took place in markets at Dome, Taifa,Haatso and Kwabenya all in the Ga East Municipal Assembly.
Professor Francis Hasford, the Deputy Director-General of GAEC, emphasised the importance of taking breast screening seriously.

He stated that early detection and treatment of breast cancer can yield over a 90% chance of success.
Dr. Akosua Kyere, the Medical Superintendent of GAEC Hospital, also underscored the significance of breast cancer screening, advising individuals to “screen today, live tomorrow.”
Her message highlighted the critical role of early detection in the fight against breast cancer.
“I urge women to prioritise breast screening and encourage Ghanaians to show their support for breast cancer awareness by wearing pink, the official colour of the campaign.

“By working together, we can promote early detection and treatment of breast cancer, ultimately saving lives,” she advised.
Yvonne Obiri Yeboah, Head of the Wellness Centre and Midwife Specialist, echoed the importance of breast cancer screening, describing it as a simple yet life-saving procedure. She stated that breast cancer is a dangerous disease that should not be taken lightly.
“Breast cancer is a significant health concern, and early detection is crucial for effective treatment.” Ms Yvonne’s message emphasises the need to prioritise breast health and take proactive steps to detect any potential issues early on.
