The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman, Ernest Norgbey, has announced that funds have been secured to commence several approved developmental projects in the Ashaiman constituency.
Speaking at a community engagement, the MP revealed that the constituency faced significant challenges during the eight years in opposition, as little to no development took place due to its political alignment as a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He assured residents that the situation has now changed, stating, “Both parents are in the kitchen now,” referring to the NDC being in power. He promised accelerated development under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
Mr. Norgbey disclosed that key projects, including road construction, school infrastructure, maternity blocks, and a 24-hour market facility, have been approved, with funding already available to begin implementation.
He added that these projects are expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year.
“Eight years in opposition was not easy when it comes to Ashaiman; there have been no massive environmental projects except those I provided with my Common Fund.
“Writing letters and lobbying for projects for my community brought back bad memories for those years that were wasted.
“But as I speak to you now, I have His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, who belongs to the same fraternity that I belong to, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the relevant Ministers. Progress appears to be very fast, and the people of Ashaiman are happy about it.
“So far, within nine months, we’ve achieved successes, as I demonstrated on the screen, and more of these things will be happening in the future.
“About 50 kilometres of roads will be constructed starting this year, along with the construction of 12 classroom blocks and the purchase of 3,000 chairs for those units,” he reaffirmed.
He further clarified that most of the major crimes reported in areas near Ashaiman did not occur within the municipality itself.
He therefore called on the media to stop tarnishing the image of the municipality and to specify the constituency in which the crime occurred.
He emphasised that the crime rate in Ashaiman has reduced significantly, noting that only minor theft incidents occasionally occur, as in any other community.
