Ghanaian gospel musician Sonny Badu has called for a closer look at the cultural phenomenon surrounding dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, following the massive turnout at his recently held ‘ShattaFest’ concert.
Reacting to the sea of fans who filled the Independence Square last weekend to support the dancehall icon, Mr. Badu remarked:
“It’s never happened in the history of Ghana, not even on the day of our independence with Dr Kwame Nkrumah,” he argued.
He further described the event as unprecedented and suggested that Shatta Wale be studied as a subject in academic institutions.
“This is huge. @shattawalenima needs to be studied. We all go throw money for ground, feed the streets and they got your back.”
The gospel singer, known for his inspirational music and commentary on national issues, expressed optimism about Ghana’s creative trajectory.
“I think Ghana is evolving and soon we will take the centre stage again,” he said in a post on Facebook on Monday, October 20, 2025.
