The World Health Organization (WHO) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through the Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) programme and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF).
A WHO team, led by the Country Representative to Ghana, Dr. Fiona Braka paid a courtesy call on the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to discuss technical support for these key government initiatives.

The FPHC programme aims to remove user fees for essential healthcare services, enhancing financial protection and expanding service coverage nationwide.
The initiative targets preventive, promotive, and basic curative services at primary healthcare facilities, including Community-based Heath Planning and Services (CHPS), compounds, health centres, and polyclics.

Mr. Akandoh described the programme as “a transformative step in Ghana’s journey towards UHC.”
The team commended the government’s leadership and commitment to advancing these initiatives, reiterating their partnership to ensure equitable and accessible healthcare for all Ghanaians.
