The Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has arrested a woman for publishing false information that caused public fear and panic.
The suspect, identified as Elizabeth Acquah, also known as “Yaa Lizzy,” was picked up by the Regional DOVVSU Command following a complaint lodged by Joseph Cann, 22, on Monday, November 17, 2025.
According to the police statement, the incident occurred on November 2, when Cann and his girlfriend, Felicia Ofori Atta, 20, stopped at Yareyeya, a community along the Tarkwa-Bogoso road, to resolve a misunderstanding.
While they were engaged in conversation, the suspect, who was attending a funeral in the area, allegedly confronted Cann with false accusations of kidnapping.
She is further reported to have assaulted him and recorded videos of the couple and their vehicle, which she later posted on social media, falsely claiming that a child had been kidnapped.
The statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in the Western Central Region, noted that the content went viral, sparking widespread fear and panic.
The Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against the circulation of false information and reminded citizens that publishing misleading content on social media is a criminal offence punishable by law.
