The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) has been honored with a major regional award, earning recognition for its outstanding performance in maritime safety and vessel inspections.
The acknowledgment, received at the 15th Port State Control Committee Meeting (PSCC15) in Conakry, Guinea, highlights GMA’s exceptional commitment to maintaining high operational standards across Ghana’s waters.
According to the Abuja Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), an organization made up of 21 maritime nations from Mauritania to South Africa
The GMA distinguished itself among member countries and was therefore presented with one of its most esteemed awards.
A team from the GMA was in attendance to receive the award, and upon their return to Ghana, they presented it to the Director-General, Dr. Kamal-Deen Ali (Naval Capt Rtd.), in recognition of his leadership and guidance.
“This isn’t just a trophy, it’s a powerful reflection of GMA’s unwavering commitment maritime safety, strict compliance, and maintaning the absolute the highest standards in inspecting vessels within Ghanaian waters,” the Authority said in a Facebook post on Monday, November 24, 2025.
The GMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safe and clean seas, stressing that the honor only strengthens its resolve to uphold the highest levels of professionalism in its inspection duties.
“We remain dedicated to keeping our seas safe and clean,” parts of the statement noted.
