Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibril, has stressed that the court’s decision ordering a rerun in the Kpandai 2024 Parliamentary Election dispute is a positive step toward curbing electoral controversies.
He added that the court’s ruling on the matter aims to ensure peaceful coexistence between the parties involved.
According to him, peaceful elections are guided by strict measures that make the process clear and trustworthy, highlighting that, when issues arise, there is a need to seek redress at the courts to resolve them to maintain free and fair elections.
“Electoral irregularities can first be addressed at the polling station with the presiding officer. If further challenges arise, they can be taken to the collation centre for review and clarification,” he stressed.
Speaking further on the matter on Angel TV, Mr. Gibril argued that introducing an extra pink sheet undermined the case’s credibility and weakened the argument, noting that the matter could have been handled with the argument of 41 affected pollen stations.
“The matter could have been handled more straightforwardly for the 41 affected polling stations in court. During the court proceedings, the judge observed that an NPP polling station also experienced similar irregularities, leading to the annulment of the election for a fresh election to maintain peace and stability,” he claimed on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
