Presidential Aide, Dr. Sammy Ayeh, has described the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration under President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo as extravagant and fiscally reckless.
According to him, the NPP’s economic mismanagement was worsened by what he termed a “boozy lifestyle.”
In an exclusive interview on the December 1, 2025 edition of the Angel Morning Show (AMS), Dr. Ayeh accused the opposition of indulging in unaffordable spending.
“They were spending and living a champagne life on an akpeteshie budget. Your money can only afford to buy akpeteshie; however, you want to do things like that of someone who consumes champagne,” he told Saddick Adams on Angel TV.
Mr. Ayeh added, “Hope you truly understand me, you must cut your coat according to your size. They [NPP] were eating more than they had, so you could realize that the country’s deficit hit 15% at a point in the NPP’s administration.”
He called out the NPP and argued that they had sought to claim credit for the new direction of the country under the John Mahama administration.
“But look at the NDC government under President Mahama, he had given a strict directive to Finance Minister Ato Forson to oversee that no institution makes an attempt to pay its workers without his approval,” the government communicator noted.
According to him, Mr. Mahama’s emphasis on fiscal responsibility and discipline attests to his visionary leadership in resetting the country, unlike the NPP, whose priority, he claimed, was self-enrichment.
