A Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced a 23-year-old commercial motorbike rider to 10 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a five-year-old boy at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
The convict, Baffour Kwakye, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty following a trial.
According to the prosecution led by Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum, the victim was a Class One pupil who lived in the same neighbourhood as the accused.
He told the court that Kwakye sent the victim on an errand on May 6, 2025, and later lured him into his room under the pretext of watching video content on his phone. It was there that the act occurred.
The little boy later informed his mother, Akosua Kisiwaa, who also reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Manso Nkwanta. A subsequent medical examination was conducted, where the abuse was confirmed, leading to an intense search for the convict by the police.
Mr. Kwakye was arrested on July 20 at Manso Nkran in connection with an unrelated theft case. Upon learning of the outstanding defilement report, he was handed over to the authorities at Manso Nkwanta.
However, it was in his caution statement that he admitted to the offence committed.
Following this, Presiding Judge His Honour Isaac Appietu sentenced Kwakye to 120 months’ imprisonment, equivalent to 10 years.
