President John Dramani Mahama has handed over 40 armoured vehicles to the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to boost internal security and enhance operational capacity.

The vehicles include 25 fully armoured units and 15 light armoured vehicles, comprising 5 Cobra-4, 20 Cobra-3, and 15 TLC-79 pickups, designed for high-risk security operations.
The armoured vehicles are expected to improve rapid response, enhance officer protection, and boost crime-fighting operations, particularly in areas requiring specialised tactical support.

President Mahama stated that the provision of the vehicles forms part of a broader national effort to retool the security services and strengthen their capacity to protect lives, property, and national assets.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to adequately resourcing the Police Service and other security agencies to effectively discharge their constitutional mandate.

He also praised the police team for their success in fighting crime and encouraged them to continue safeguarding the country’s peace.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno expressed appreciation for the vehicles, assuring they would be put to effective operational use and properly maintained.
