The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has emphasized the need for Africa to take full control of its health future.
He stated that the continent is moving towards building its own health systems rather than relying on others.
Speaking at the WHX Leaders Africa Summit, Mr. Akandoh highlighted the importance of building stronger health systems, including secure supply chains for vaccines and medicines, efficient laboratories, and research that addresses community needs.
He stressed that Africa’s health sovereignty is no longer a distant dream but an emerging reality.
The Minister also emphasized the need for partnerships that align with African priorities and focus on building local capacity.

He cited Ghana’s collaboration with Pfizer as an example of responsible cooperation that strengthens national capabilities.
Mr. Akandoh outlined Ghana’s ongoing reforms to expand primary care, modernize infrastructure, and improve insurance coverage.

He urged leaders to choose bold action and collaboration over rhetoric, stating that “health sovereignty is within reach”.
The conference brought together leaders from across Africa and beyond to discuss shaping a new era of African health leadership.
