Gov’t to issue 24-hour statement on Bawku mediation report – Mahama

His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, has said that the government will issue a statement on the Bawku mediation report within 24 hours.

Speaking at the presentation of the Bawku Peace Mediation Report on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, during a briefing on the Bawku conflict, he assured the gathering that he would review the report and respond accordingly.

“And I can assure him, that government will look at this report and within the next 24 hours government will issue a statement on its definitive position on the report,” he noted following Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II presentation.

He further urged stakeholders involved to continue engaging the two groups to ensure reconciliation.

“But it’s my hope that the national peace council, the house of chiefs, Otumfour himself and all the religious bodies would go the next step of continuing the engagement… to ensure that we are able to bring reconcilation between the two groups,” he stated.

President Mahama also praised the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for accepting to serve as mediator in efforts to restore peace in Bawku.

“I wish to thank Otunfour for this honourable job he has done for God and country. He has shown that, he does not belong to Ashanti alone, he’s a national assert.

“I am happy that you took the decision to be transparent about it, and I’m sure that we can act on it to make sure that we bring peace to Bawku,” he noted.
