The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has prevented a planned robbery after receiving intelligence that a group of armed suspects had gathered in a bush along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta road, with the intention of attacking commuters
In a social media post, the Ghana Police Service explained that upon receiving intelligence, a police team moved to the area where they encountered armed suspects who opened fire on the officers.
The police responded, resulting in two of the suspects sustaining gunshot injuries, while others managed to escape.
“Acting on the intelligence on 31st December 2025, a police team swiftly moved to the area and encountered four armed suspects who opened fire and attempted to flee upon seeing the police. Police responded to the attack, during which two suspects, later identified as Usmaro Mohammed and Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Yaw, sustained gunshot injuries, while two others managed to escape into the bush,” the Ghana Police Service said.

The Police Service added that a search at the scene led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun loaded with four BB cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a black bag containing 16 live cartridges, as well as a Toyota VOXY vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects in their operations.
The Police Services reported that the suspects are believed to multiple robberies in Manso and Obuasi, including incidents in Mpohor, Nyinahini, and Sefwi.
Police investigations established that the suspects collaborated with accomplices in Mankranso, Tamale, and Brekum, who remain at large.
The Police further revealed that the injured suspects died and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accomplices and trace the seized vehicle.
“The injured suspects were pronounced dead on arrival at the Bekwai Municipal Hospital, meanwhile investigations are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the ownership of the impounded vehicle,” the Police assured.
