Popular American YouTuber and online streamer, popularly known as IShowSpeed, toured Akropong-Akuapem in the Eastern Region during a familiarisation visit as part of his ongoing African tour.
He paid a historic courtesy call on the Okuapehene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, marking a memorable cultural exchange between global digital influence and Ghana’s rich traditional heritage.
The celebrated streamer arrived in Akropong-Akuapem on Monday, January 26, 2026, after visiting the breathtaking Asenema Waterfalls, a natural landmark within the Akuapem Kingdom.
From there, he proceeded to the Okuapehene’s Palace, where he was warmly received by traditional authorities including chiefs, elders, and politician Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament for the area.
IShowSpeed was introduced to the customs, values, and royal traditions of the Akuapem people in a brief but significant ceremony, where he participated in traditional dancing and rituals.
In recognition of his visit and as a symbol of cultural acceptance, he was bestowed with a Ghanaian royal name, “Barima Kofi Akuffo.”
The name holds deep historical meaning, connecting him to the royal lineage of the Akuapem State and to the great forebears of the Okuapehene, Nana Kwasi Akuffo I and Nana Kwasi Akuffo II, from whom the current king descends.
The occasion highlighted the growing global interest in Ghana’s cultural heritage and showcased Akuapem as a hub of tradition, history, and hospitality.
His tour, coupled with live streaming, lasted five hours before he flew back to Accra by helicopter and subsequently departed the country for Namibia, where he is expected to conclude his African tour.
