The Presidential Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed its profound gratitude to the Ghana Police Service (GPS) for overseeing an incident-free exercise during the party’s recent primary.
The NPP’s Presidential Primary, held on Saturday, January 31, has been classified as one of the most peaceful electoral processes in recent times due to the stringent security measures deployed by the police.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won the race to become the flagbearer-elect of the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a gesture of appreciation, the Presidential Election Committee visited the Police Administration to formally thank them for their central role in ensuring peaceful polls.
The committee, led by its Chairman, Joseph Osei Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise, was welcomed at the Police Headquarters.
Mr. Osei Owusu, in his remarks, commended the Police for the comprehensive security arrangements and the professionalism displayed by officers nationwide before, during, and after the primaries.
He noted that the visible police presence, effective coordination, and neutral posture of personnel “contributed greatly to maintaining calm and public confidence throughout the electoral process.”
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), hosted the New Patriotic Party Presidential Election Committee.
On his part, IGP Yohuno thanked the Chairman and his delegation for the visit and the recognition.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Police Service to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property and supporting democratic processes through dedicated, disciplined, and professional policing.
