The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has rejected a planned surprise welcome ceremony by staff of the Ministry, intended to celebrate his arrival in Ghana.
In a social media post on Sunday, March, 29, 2026, the Minister stated that he had become aware of the intended reception, which was scheduled to take place at the airport, however such ceremonies are used to celebrate major accomplishments for the country.
While expressing appreciation to the management and staff for their thoughtful gesture, Mr. Ablakwa directed that “all such plans to offer me a surprise welcome at the airport be cancelled immediately.”
He explained that he would have objected to the idea even if prior consultations had been made, stressing that his recent success should not be viewed as a personal victory.
“This is not a personal victory, and besides, there is more work ahead of us,” the Minister noted.
