The Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed students not to report to the Experimental D/A School at Accra Newtown.
This directive follows the collapse of a three‑storey building at the Experimental Basic School, on Sunday, March 29, 2026, which resulted in three deaths and about 20 injuries after worshippers were trapped in the rubble.
Speaking to the media, the Director‑General of GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, said an emergency meeting will determine the next steps, and that the directive will remain in place until students’ safety is assured.
“Once we are sure that they are safe, we will use them; once they are not safe, we will make sure that students don’t go to such places. So we are going to meet immediately to look at the lessons and what it means going forward,” he stated.
Prof. Davis also said GES will inspect the structural integrity of uncompleted buildings being used by students elsewhere in Ghana to determine whether they are fit for purpose.
He warned that any uncompleted buildings found unsafe will be off‑limits to students until a solution is found to prevent future collapses.
“We are going to have an emergency meeting with the regional and the National team to work with the estate department to look at the structural integrity of uncompleted places that are being used to ascertain whether they are actually good for that purpose,” he remarked.
