Ghana and Burkina Faso have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade ties, with a focus on addressing challenges in the tomato export sector.
This comes after Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, met with the Ambassador of Burkina Faso in Yaoundé, Cameroon, to discuss ways to enhance trade cooperation.
The meeting highlighted Ghana’s reliance on Burkina Faso for tomato imports, with Ghana sourcing 70-80% of its tomatoes from the country, valued at $400 million annually.

Burkina Faso’s suspension of fresh tomato exports has posed significant challenges to Ghana’s tomato supply chain.
Madam Ofosu-Adjare called for a mutually beneficial resolution, while Burkina Faso explained that the suspension aims to support its domestic tomato processing factories.
Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration in agriculture, trade expansion, and market access.
The Minister announced plans to invite Burkinabè traders to Ghana to explore business opportunities, and both delegations pledged to resolve emerging challenges through diplomatic engagement.
