The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has taken custody of 37 sacks of substances suspected to be cannabis, following a successful maritime interdiction operation by the Ghana Navy’s Special Boat Squadron.
The operation, which took place on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Goi, near Ada in the Greater Accra region, forms part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking along Ghana’s coastal corridors.
In a statment, NACOC said it preliminary examination indicates that each sack contains an estimated 70 parcels of the suspected cannabis, pointing to a significant quantity likely intended for distribution.
In addition to the sacks, the joint team also recovered other items believed to have supported the operation, including two gallons of premix fuel, five empty gallons, and an outboard motor.
“The seized canoe and all exhibits have since been formally handed over to NACOC for further investigations and possible prosecution,” the Commission said Monday, March 30.
NACOC added that it has commenced investigations into the case to identify and apprehend individuals connected to the smuggling attempt, as authorities intensify surveillance and enforcement measures in the area.
