Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) has warned that 30% of cylinders submitted under the Cylinder Recyclation Model (CRM) are unsafe for use.

Speaking to the media, the Managing Director, Abdul-Rahman Makir, said the situation posed a risk to human lives and property.

He noted that the company would soon partner with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to carry out full-scale public education on the CRM.

“Very soon we are going to partner with the NPA to do full scale public education on the cylinder recyculation model because one thing we have realised is that at some part even in Accra some people don’t even know about the CRM.

“When you look at the cylinders that come here for the refurbishment they usually come in barges, sometimes they come and about 30% of them are not good and they are not safe to go back into the market so if not because of the cylinder recyculation model we will still have those cylinders sitting in peoples homes and that is geapardising safety,” he stated.

Mr Makir further urged the NPA to ensure the full nationwide rollout of the policy to strengthen safety measures as well as urged for public education on the CRM to expand to all regions across Ghana to protect lives and property.

He also encouraged the media to help spread awareness of the CRM through their various platforms to ensure the information reaches people nationwide.

“The CRM is a very good policy that we all need to come on board to and I also encourage and entreat the media to do more education on the CRM so that we can get full participation in other to increase the safety of our LPG cylinders at homes,” he said.
