A raging fire engulfed a 27-room apartment block in Suhum, Eastern Region, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, destroying 12 rooms and injuring a firefighter.
Fire crews from Suhum and Bunso battled the blaze for more than two hours before bringing it under control.
The affected apartment, located at Sunshine, a suburb of the Suhum municipality, was confirmed by the Eastern Regional Public Relations Office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
> “The fire involved a 27-room facility with a conference hall and reception area. The blaze was brought under control after more than two hours of firefighting, with 12 rooms destroyed. Fifteen rooms, along with 16 adjoining rooms and nearby structures, were saved from the fire,” the GNFS stated.
Meanwhile, ADO Daniel Opare Ohene Akonnor sustained an electrical injury during the firefighting operation and is currently receiving medical attention.
Investigations have been launched into the incident, to unravel it cause.
