The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested eight suspects for alleged fraudulent activities and assault at Kotokrom, a suburb of Sunyani West Municipality in the Bono Region.
The suspects, arrested by the Regional Operations Unit, are Peter Mbam (24 years), Godwin Moses (26 years), Humble Oweifah (18 years), Osas Ogbemudia (30 years), Samuel Aisosa (26 years), Ashile Godbess (24 years), Alexander Uyuo (30 years) and Patrick Romans (25 years).
According to a statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, the arrest followed a distress call received on October 4, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., that a group of people were attacking a person at Kotokrom.
The patrol team proceeded to the scene and found the victim, Godstime Umukoro (21 years), with multiple marks of assault on his body. The eight suspects were arrested at the scene.
During interrogation, the suspects told police they subjected the victim to severe beating as part of his initiation into the internet fraud business, a process they claimed they had also undergone.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were brought to Ghana by one Nwachukwu King Augustine, who is their chairman.
Police said the group lures innocent victims using downloaded images of foreign military men and starts chatting with them under the pretext that they are at a war front in Yemen. When they succeed in collecting the victims’ money, it is then paid into their boss’s account.
The Bono Regional Police Command commended the public for their swift intervention and assured them of continued collaboration in fighting crime in the region.
