The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has engaged traders, business owners and other stakeholders on its proposed review of rates and fees for 2027.
The engagement, which forms part of the Assembly’s annual Fee Fixing Resolution process, brought together traders, transport operators, artisans, landlords, Assembly Members and other contributors to its Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

The proposed review is significant as it is the first major review in five years and introduces some new revenue items to boost revenue mobilisation.
Principal Budget Analyst at the KMA, Mr Eric Nunoo, who presented the comprehensive list of rateable items and proposed charges, said the engagement was to allow stakeholders to raise concerns and make recommendations before final approval.

He appealed to ratepayers to support the Assembly’s revenue drive, stressing that IGF is crucial for financing development initiatives and improving service delivery.
According to him, the proposals will be forwarded to the Revenue Sub-Committee and other relevant committees for consideration before final approval by the General Assembly.

Presiding Member of the KMA, Patrick Kwame Frimpong, commended stakeholders for their participation and assured them their concerns would be factored into deliberations.

Participants expressed willingness to pay reasonable rates to support Kumasi’s development while making suggestions for consideration.
The proposed rates and fees will take effect in 2027 after all required committee reviews and approval by the General Assembly.
