Residents of Manso Nsiana in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region have staged a peaceful demonstration to protest the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man, Misark Addo, at a drinking spot in the community.
The aggrieved residents, clad in red bands and chanting to demand justice, said the deceased was shot dead under questionable circumstances allegedly involving security personnel.
They described the incident as unprovoked and called for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to ensure accountability.
Addressing the media during the protest, the Assembly Member for the area, James Adomako, said the community is deeply pained by the incident and wants the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to intervene to ensure justice is served.
He appealed to the police administration to identify all officers allegedly involved and ensure they face the full rigours of the law if found culpable.
Some residents who spoke during the protest also called on the police hierarchy to ensure impartiality in the investigation, insisting that the circumstances surrounding the shooting must be fully established.
The residents have given the IGP three working days to act on their demands, warning that they will escalate their protest if nothing is done.
Meanwhile, one person has reportedly been arrested in connection with the incident, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital for autopsy and preservation.
