The Ghana Education Service (GES) has called on the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information regarding recent developments at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).
It assured stakeholders that investigations into the matter are ongoing while efforts are being made to ensure the smooth running of the school.
The appeal follows a visit by the Director-General of GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, to the school on Monday, October 26, 2026, accompanied by the President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and officials of the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate.
The delegation welcomed final-year students back to campus and engaged school authorities and other stakeholders on measures aimed at restoring normal academic activities, addressing challenges arising from the recent disturbances, and supporting students in their academic pursuits.
According to GES, discussions with the school’s management focused on strategies to recover lost instructional hours and sustain effective teaching and learning.
He highlighted proposed measures to make up for lost academic time were presented to both teaching and non-teaching staff and subsequently accepted.
The Service noted that the engagements also formed part of ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the recent incidents at the school.
Prof. Davis emphasised the responsibility of assistant heads, housemasters and heads of departments to provide leadership and ensure the effective administration of the institution pending the appointment of a substantive headmaster.
The delegation also met with housemasters to discuss student welfare and arrangements to ensure students enjoy a smooth stay on campus.
Addressing the students, Prof. Davis urged them to remain disciplined, focused and committed to their studies.
He encouraged them to take advantage of the academic support measures being rolled out and work diligently towards success in the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Meanwhile, GES dismissed reports circulating on social media and other platforms that some officers implicated in the matter had been transferred.
The Service clarified that, apart from the interdiction of the headmaster and the stepping aside of some senior officers, all of which had already been officially communicated, no transfers had been effected.
It stressed that investigations are still underway and that no prejudicial decisions or actions have been taken either for or against any persons involved.
GES therefore urged the public to exercise restraint, remain calm and support ongoing efforts by the Service and other stakeholders to resolve the matter and maintain stability at the school.
“The public is therefore encouraged to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and support the Ghana Education Service as it works with the relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter and ensure the smooth running of the school,” the statement said.
