Ghana and China have reaffirmed their bilateral relations and explored opportunities for further collaboration in road infrastructure development.
This follows a courtesy call on the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, by a joint delegation from the Jiangxi Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (Jiangxi Provincial SASAC) and China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Company Limited.
The Chinese delegation was led by Mr Xiao Yun, Director-General of Jiangxi Provincial SASAC, together with Mr Xu Zhenghua, Vice President of CJIC.
The parties discussed existing relations and prospects for future partnerships with the Ministry.
Speaking at the engagement, Mr Agbodza reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries.
“President Mahama has arguably made the largest scale of infrastructure investment within the road sector under the Big Push Programme and Chinese companies are participating significantly.
“The relationship between Ghana and China is very important to us and we promise to do what we can to sustain it,” he said.
He noted that cooperation with international institutions and development partners remains important in “mobilising investment, technical expertise and other resources”, to support the country’s road infrastructure priorities.
