The Greater Accra Regional Vice Chairman of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA), David Kwame Abotsi, has urged Ghanaian youth to acquire practical vocational skills to help tackle unemployment, establish sustainable livelihoods and support their families.
Speaking to Angel News after a promotional health walk around Kwame Nkrumah Circle and its environs, Mr. Abotsi said Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) remains essential in addressing Ghana’s growing unemployment challenge.
He explained that equipping young people with hands-on skills would enable them to become self-employed, contribute meaningfully to the national economy and improve their living conditions.
Mr. Abotsi also announced that the GNTDA National Fashion Exposition would take place from November 4 to 6 at the National Science Museum in Adabraka.
According to him, the three-day event would showcase the creativity and skills of Ghanaian fashion designers while highlighting the economic potential of the local fashion and garment industry.
He called on stakeholders and the general public to give greater attention to the fashion industry and continuously patronise locally made garments as a way of supporting indigenous businesses.
Mr. Abotsi further urged unregistered tailors and dressmakers to join the association, revealing that certification through the GNTDA had helped several Ghanaian artisans secure employment opportunities abroad.
The promotional health walk was organised to sensitise the public to the vibrancy of Ghana’s local fashion and garment industry and encourage support for home-grown tailors and dressmakers.
