The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the first tranche of its annual GH¢120,000 financial support package to all 48 clubs in the Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) Division One League.
The disbursement, made possible through the GFA’s sponsorship partnership with Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), forms part of the association’s broader efforts to ease the financial pressures confronting clubs.
It also provides meaningful assistance towards the clubs’ administrative and operational responsibilities throughout the season.
In a statement, the GFA said the gesture demonstrates its commitment to strengthening the financial stability and operational capacity of clubs competing in the competition.
“Under the annual support arrangement, each of the 48 participating clubs is entitled to GH¢120,000, providing a structured financial lifeline to help them manage essential expenses, improve their administrative operations and create a more sustainable environment for football development.
“The financial intervention is expected to ease some of the clubs’ financial obligations, particularly in meeting routine operational costs and managing the demands of a competitive league that requires significant investment in player welfare, logistics and administration,” it said.
The GFA pledged to utilise its continued partnership with Universal Merchant Bank to pursue practical interventions towards a more financially sustainable competition while supporting the growth and development of football at the second tier of Ghana’s domestic league structure.
It also reaffirmed the association’s commitment to absorbing key match-day expenses for the Division One League.
These include refereeing fees, Match Commissioners’ fees, venue media officers’ fees, and cameramen’s fees, ensuring that clubs receive additional relief from the financial responsibilities associated with organising league fixtures.
