Five people including a Footballer, a gardener and public servant, have been remanded into police custody for allegedly shooting and killing two police officers at East Trasacco on May 2, 2024.
Presenting the facts of the case to the Court on Wednesday, May, 09, 2024, Chief Inspector Margaret Ofori Boadi of the Legal and Prosecution Unit, CID Headquarters, told the court that the accused persons and others at large, conspired to allegedly shoot and kill the two police officers.
She named the suspects as Mohammed Alhassan Damba, a Public Servant;×Chinkor Abdullah Alhassan, a foreman and Arabic translator at Hakska Block factory at East Trassaco; Alex Appoh, a gardener; Bright Nana Kwame Owusu, also a worker at Hakska Block Factory as well Ganiu Iddrisu, a Footballer.
She explained that on the May 2, at about 6:30pm, the accused persons conspired with others at large and killed the two Police officers- L/Cpl. Tasigya Ngapun Isaac and Constable Benjamin Tindum- who were off duty and were seated in front of their private residence located near HAkska Block Factory at East Trasacco, East Legon, Accra.
She urged the court to remand them as investigations were still ongoing and per the nature of the offence and punishment if found guilty, the accused persons when granted bail will not stand trial.
Counsel for the accused persons, Nelson Noble Adedawonu, had prayed the Court to grant bail as he indicated, the facts do not support the charges and especially, the first accused person was not even within the jurisdiction of the court when the alleged crime was committed.
He also pointed to the trial magistrate, Prince Osei Owusu that, the police have arrested wrong people who have no knowledge about the crime that took place at East Trasacco.
The trial magistrate, after hearing both parties, remanded the accused persons into police custody saying, he could grant bail has he had no jurisdiction and urged the counsel for accused to go to the right forum for bail.
He, therefore, adjourned the case to May 20, 2024.
