No Covid-19 vaccination booster, no entry into Parliament – Speaker orders

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has summoned members of the House for an emergency sitting next week Friday.

A statement signed by Mr Bagbin, said the Members of Parliament (MPs) are to report to the legislative assembly on Friday, May 17, 2024, to consider urgent Parliamentary business.

The meeting is scheduled for 10:00 AM at the Parliament House, Accra, the statement dated May 10, said.

The statement did not give a detailed account of the subject for the day about the Speakers’ recall of the House for the expected meeting.

However, Angelonline.com.gh understands the summons is in connection with the approval of President Akufo-Addo’s recently appointed Ministers Deputy Ministers who have gone through vetting but have not been sworn into office.

The delay followed a suit filed by South Dayi MP, Rockson Defeamekpor who sought to halt the vetting process in Parliament pending the determination of his suit challenging the constitutionality of the President’s decision to reassign Ministers without Parliament’s involvement.

However, the Supreme Court on March 27, 2024, ruled that the MP’s case had no direct relevance to the nominees currently before Parliament, as it primarily concerns reassigned Ministers.

The ruling effectively paves way for Parliament to continue the process of approval of the Ministerial nominees to be followed by their swearing in before they can assume official duties.
