The Special Anti-Galamsey Taskforce has clarified that the arrest of one Kojo Preprah, is in connection with his interference with their operations Desiri Forest Reserve in the Ashanti Region.
It also clarified that Mr. Kojo Preprah has never held the position of president, chairman, or member of GNASSM.
According to a statement released on Thursday, July 10, 2025, and signed by the General Secretary of GNASSM, Godwin Nickleson Amarh, the association explained that GNASSM possesses a well-defined leadership structure comprising a national president, national executive members, regional executives, and district executives. In this context, Mr. Preprah holds no role or affiliation within their organisation.
“As an Association, GNASSM remains firmly committed to responsible and sustainable small-scale mining practices. We have consistently partnered with the government and security agencies in the ongoing fight against illegal mining (galamsey) across the country,” they assured.
They further urged the general public and the media to verify information before dissemination and to support government-led initiatives aimed at eliminating illegal mining, asserting that combating galamsey is a shared national responsibility.
